The Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon. Ekanem Brown has presented relief materials worth millions of naira to Internally displaced persons, IDPs living in a temporary camp in a Mkpat Enin.
The Chairman presented the materials last Friday amidst cheers and tears of joy from the displaced persons who had been begging for government at all levels to come to their aid.
Since the arrival of the IDPs who are made up of Cameroon returnees, victims of anglophone and francophone conflicts in Cameroon, the Council boss has been working tirelessly even with scarce resources available to him to cushion the excruciating starvation that is peculiar to such settlements.
In this latest move, the Chairman worked unflaggingly including travelling severally to Lagos, Abuja and Portharcourt to make a case for the welfare of displaced people living in his domain. And the efforts paid off as he succeeded in drawing the attention of the Nigerian Customs Service who handed over food stuffs, clothings and other necessities in their warehouse to the Council boss to transport to the refugee camp in Mkpat Enin.
In his message before the presentation, Hon. Ekanem Brown thanked the Federal government for coming to the aid of the IDPs through the Nigeria Customs Service and assured the displaced persons of the commitment of his administration in ensuring that they feel at home while in Mkpat Enin.
“I am a traveller and I understand how it feels to be in a strange land. Such experiences is motivating me to go out of my way to ensure that you people are okay.
“I want assure una say I no go allow hunger to disturb una. The children here go start school, I go always visit una to know una problem and solve it by the grace of God” he said.
Speaking on behalf the displaced persons, one Madam kokomma Isong said the Chairman’s interest in their welfare is unusual. She prayed God to bless the council boss even as the IDPs sang and clap for the Chairman and Federal Government.
Items presented to the camp included; 44 bags of 50 kg rice, five beil of clothings, 225 liters of vegetable oil, 25 cartons of Eva soap, 25 cartons of tomatoes paste and five rolls of fabricks.
