The people of Ikpa Ibom ward 3 and 4 in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area were agog yesterday, Thursday, 28th November, 2019 as Mkpat Enin Council boss, Hon. Ekanem Brown flagged off road grading intervention programme for 2019.
The flag off took place at Ikot Okopodong.
The Council Chairman who arrived the site at noon was received by elders, youth and women of Ikot Okopodong and neighbouring communities led by Akparawa Boniface Ekwere.
While interacting with the villagers, he informed them that the contractor is expected to grade the entire expanse of the route which links 5 communities from the tarred road in Ikot Isighe to Ikot Okobodong, Ikot Obio Ekpong, Ata nnuk and link Asong with the newly tarred Asong-Awa road.
The Chairman who performed the flag off in company of the Councillor representing Ukpum Minya ward 3, Hon. Nsikan Simeon, that of Ikpa Ibom ward 3, Hon. Lawrence Benard and the Supervisor for works Hon. Peter Umoh, also said that in the ongoing phase of road grading, strategic economic routes and roads that link many communities will be given priority.
While urging people of the affected communities to cooperate with the contractors to enhance smooth and timely completion of the project, he promised that many other communities will benefit from the road intervention project as the weather becomes more friendly for road grading work.
Speaking on behalf of the Ikot Okopodong community, Chief Boniface Ekwere poured encomiums on the Chairman for coming to the aid of the people of the benefitting communities.
According to him, the Ikot Okopodong to Asong road is a vital route that connects more than five communities but has remained impassible in recent times. While pledging the cooperation of the communities and safety of equipments, he expressed confidence that on completion of the work, the people of the area will have succour and experience ease of movement of goods in the area.
